At Home Printmake
For my last semester of college, Spring 2020, I made my own print make class. Due to the stay at home order and all classes going online, I was severely limited on what I could and could not do. So with this I decided to try some DIY home printmaking. Here are some of the techniques that I tried with the materials that I had at home.
Monotype DIY Project 1

Frog drawn with Crayon and Oil Pastel

Soaking Paper

Pressing the paper to the Crayon and Oil Pastel, I used a wooden spoon to press the paper

Not a successful transfer
I attempted at doing a mono type. With this technique it called for crayons, wetting the paper, and then using something to press the mono type to make the image transfer. I also tried it with some oil pastels that I had. The ones that I saw in this video called for Caran D'Ache Crayons, which are water soluble crayons. I got some of the excess wax from both to come off, however it was not a successful transfer. I will possibly try this technique later with either normal pastels mixed with water or water colors.
Monotype DIY Project 2

Used an old clear cutting board that I had

For easier clean up I covered it with Press' n Seal

I found a phrase in Korean that I wanted to recreate

Choose which color I wanted it in. I find this blue color really soothing. This technique called for using paint instead of print ink.

I re-wrote the phrase both in Hangul, Korean letters, and English translation

I wrote the phrase in permanent marker on a thin piece of paper so that it would bleed through and I could see the reverse of it.

I put the paper with the writing under the cutting board so that I could trace it.

Tracing the image in the blue paint that I chose earlier

Fully traced out design

I lined up the paper how I wanted it to be oriented.

I used a spoon to transfer the image to the paper

The Finale Product didn't turn out how I expected it to so I tried again.

Trying it another way so I traced just the Hangul

I used dowel to press the paper onto the paint

The transfer with the dowel had a better consistency with it but due to how I spaced it it muddled the letters
This week I used a different mono type DIY technique. I used acrylic paint this time and used a phrase that I liked. This technique turned out a lot better then the last one, I believe that if I spaced it out with the Hangul and English letters it will turn out.
Monotype DIY Project 3- Finale Project

So for this print make idea, I used paint and stenciled words to make this

Put paint on a cutting board also to put the image or text on the paper, use either painters tape or letter stickers to make it cleaner for the end product

Mix the paint up or the design you desire

Press the paint onto the paper, and roll it over with either a thick dowel or rolling pin

Make sure to press to edges to get a complete look, or if you like the colors to stay away from the edges then go for it!

Peel up the design before the paint dries

Let your print dry!
This week I decided to combine a couple of ideas from my instructor and some of the DIY's that I found online. This one has been the most successful so far!I might use this technique further and layer with it more, we will see!
